Lang Begins Run for Secretary of State

Mary Treder Lang announced Tuesday that she is running to replace Ruth Johnson as Secretary of State. Johnson’s term expires in January of 2019, and term-limits prevent her from running again.

Lang first made her campaign announcement on the Paul W. Smith Show. According to her website, Lang, a Republican, is running to be a conservative leader for security, optimization, and stability.

Mary Treder Lang is a Certified Public Accountant and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents. She has been an EMU Regent since Governor Rick Snyder appointed her in December of 2012.

Lang is the fourth declared Republican candidate for Secretary of State. Shelby Township Clerk Stan Grot, MSU professor & former Michigan Trump Co-Chair Joseph Guzman, and state Senator Mike Kowall are also running. However, Kowall may leave the race to run for Dave Trott’s Congressional seat (along with Lena Epstein and others). Delegates to the Michigan Republican state convention in August of 2018 will vote to decide on a nominee. The nominee will then go on to face a Democrat opponent in November.
