Bob Young Endorses John James
Candidate for U.S. Senate John James (R-Farmington Hills) received another major endorsement today. Former Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Bob Young, Jr., who himself ran a brief campaign for the Senate, announced on the Frank Beckmann Show that he is endorsing James’ candidacy.
“I am proud to support John James for the U.S. Senate,” Young said in the radio interview. “In politics, as in life, character and conviction matter, and I think John has both. I am putting my faith and funds behind him, and I hope everybody who supported me will support John because I think he is a principled conservative who believes in those values and why the federal government has to be restrained to act within its Constitutional confines.”
John James, a businessman and veteran, thanked Bob Young for his support. “To get an endorsement from somebody who you’ve looked up to for a number of years is quite humbling…Bob Young has been a champion of conservative values before it was in vogue, before it was cool, before Donald Trump won Michigan.”
The John James campaign also announced that Young will serve as a Campaign Co-Chair for James. He joins three fellow Co-Chairs in the role: businesswoman Lauren Rakolta, attorney John Inhulsen and former State Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville.
Bob Young served as a Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court for over eighteen years, and as Chief Justice for six of those years. Governor John Engler appointed him to the court in December of 1998, and he retired in April of 2017. A few months later, he announced his campaign for U.S. Senate. He suspended his campaign on January 3, following lackluster fundraising.
John James is the the President of James Group International and President & CEO of Renaissance Global Logistics, as well as a former Army Ranger. He and investor Sandy Pensler are the two major Republican candidates vying to face off against Democrat U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow in the November general election.
